Ancaster Hall FAQs

Posted 2 weeks ago

From laundry to maintenance

To help answer any questions, queries and ease any anxieties, here are our most asked questions about our accommodation:

All standard student rooms have a mattress and mattress protector ready for you, but you will need to decide what bedding to bring. You'll need:

  • Duvet
  • Duvet cover
  • Pillow case
  • Pillow
  • Sheet

Remember to check your bed size before buying any bedding.

You can also purchase a bedding pack (and other items) from UniKitOut to be delivered in time for your arrival.

Halls catering covers 37 weeks and includes 12 healthy meals per week. Your meal plan includes:

  • Light breakfast: Served Mon-Fri in hall dining rooms.
  • A weekly allowance of £27: Loaded onto your University card to spend on your lunchtime meal at different outlets across campus.
  • Dinner: Served Mon-Fri in hall dining rooms.
  • Weekend Brunch & Dinner: You can attend 2 meals included in the catering package and pay for additional meals over the weekend.

Read more about the Catered Halls here.
Shared bathrooms are cleaned once a fortnight, communal areas (bathrooms, pantires/corridors and public areas) are cleaned daily, Monday to Friday.

Most of our catered halls and rooms don't have a fridge in the room, but you can bring one if they meet the following criteria:

  • The fridge must be 45 litres or less.
  • It must be new, with receipts to show this, or you must have an in-date PAT test if the fridge is more than a year old.
  • Must be declared on the electrical inventory form.
  • Must be removed from the room at the end of your contract.
  • Must be kept clean and maintained. You will be liable for any damage to the room caused by leaks, etc.
  • If the fridge is not working/broken, it's your responsibility to fix/dispose of it.
  • Returning students can have their fridge PAT tested rather than purchase a new one.

Where there is medical evidence and a need for one, a mini fridge can be provided once approved by Disability Support Services.

TVs are provided in common rooms, but not in individual rooms, so you are more than welcome to bring your own. However, you must pay for a separate TV licence if you watch live TV or BBC iPlayer.

This will also apply if you are watching any live TV on other devices, including laptops and tablets.

Read more about TV licences here.

You will have access to Wi-Fi in halls. Check out our guide to connecting to Wi-Fi on our Student Living page.

Residents have access to self-service washing machines and dryers at Ancaster Hall.

You can either pay for your laundry using the Circuit Go app, or you can pay as you go by tapping contactless with your card, phone or smartwatch.

Whether it's a package from home or your latest purchase, we have many on-campus locker facilities for you to use.
