Everything you need to know

What NOT to bring

To ensure safety in halls, certain items are prohibited. See our list below to make sure you only bring the necessary items with you for arrivals:

Candles, incense sticks or burners
Decorative lighting (LED battery types are permitted)
Any item presenting an open flame or high fire risk
Cooking appliances (air fryers, deep fat fryers, and rice cookers in bedrooms)
Electric or gas heaters
BBQ's or any open flame cooking or heating device*

Important: You are also not allowed to bring or use overdoor hangers in your flat, as they can damage smoke seals on fire doors.

*Dagfa Townhouses shared kitchens: small electrical cooking appliances 1200w or lower are permitted if they're under 12 months old and have valid PAT certification. Electrical/stove deep fat fryers are not allowed.

Electrical appliances must:

Be safe for UK use, CE marked, and meet British standards
Never overload sockets or be plugged into cube adapters or unprotected extensions

E-bikes and E-scooters are prohibited inside - secure bike storage lockers are available on campus

Do not bring:

Illegal drugs or controlled substances
Fireworks, flares, or sparklers
Weapons (including replicas)
Hazardous chemicals or materials

Smoking, vaping, and the use of e-cigarettes are not allowed inside halls

No pets of any kind are allowed in halls, including small caged animals

What happens if students breach these terms?

If a prohibited item is found in your room, you will be sent an email asking you to remove it within 24 hours. If you fail to do this, it will be removed and kept until the end of term.

If it's a serious/dangerous banned item, our security team may conduct a Search, Investigation and Resolution where further action may be considered in line with the Student Code of Conduct (Non-Academic).
