Student Volunteering Week is all about shining a light on the amazing things students do to help their communities, while also highlighting how volunteering can help you build skills, confidence, and connections that last a lifetime.
Whether it’s coaching kids in sports, helping out at local charities, or organising events, volunteering isn’t just about giving back - it’s also a chance to grow as a person and make your CV stand out.
At the UoN, students like Daisy Ngo and Thomas Baotic (as seen in the reel) are sharing how volunteering has helped them develop skills they’ll use for years to come.
Daisy and Thomas, members of the Thai Boxing Club, have been volunteering as sports leaders, working with young people in the school outreach program at the David Ross Sports Village. For Daisy, it’s been a life-changing experience - she’s now studying for a PGCE at UoN and is set to become a full-time teacher later this year. Thomas has also picked up loads of valuable skills, like teamwork, communication, and leadership, which will give him a head start when he graduates.
Volunteering might sound like a big commitment, but it’s often just about doing something you already love (like sport, music, or creative projects) and sharing it with others. It’s also a chance to try something new, meet people, and feel good about making a difference. If you’re thinking about giving it a go, why not check out the sports leadership opportunities at UoN? You could end up learning skills you didn’t even know you needed and having a great time doing it.
