Real talk on sex, health, and respect

Looking after your sexual health is a big part of looking after you. Whether you’re starting university, in a relationship, or just curious to learn more, here’s what you need to know about staying safe, informed, and supported.

🩺 Free & Confidential Sexual Health Services

You can access friendly, confidential help through local sexual health clinics offering:

  • STI and pregnancy testing
  • Contraception and emergency contraception
  • PEP and PrEP treatments
  • Counselling and sexual health advice
  • Specialist care for recurrent infections, sexual difficulties, and genital dermatology

You can find local clinics at:

📍Victoria Health Centre, Glasshouse Street (NG1 3LW)

📍GU Medicine, City Hospital, Gate 2 (NG5 1PB)

Haven’t registered with a GP yet? You can sign up online at Cripps Health Centre.

💊 Safe Sex & Contraception

Safe sex isn’t just about protection; it’s about confidence and care for yourself and your partner.

There are lots of contraception options out there, from pills, implants, and IUDs to condoms and natural methods. The NHS offers easy-to-follow guidance on how each one works, how to choose the best fit for you, and where to get them.

👉 You can also join the University of Nottingham Condom Scheme for free condoms on campus.

Using condoms every time you have sex is still the most effective way to protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It’s simple, discreet, and protects everyone involved.

Regular STI testing is another great habit to build into your routine, even if you feel fine. You can get tested at one of the clinics above or order a free postal STI test kit delivered discreetly to your door.

For oral sex, consider using a dental dam (a thin latex sheet) to reduce STI risk, and yes, you can even make one yourself!

💕 Consent & Healthy Relationships

Healthy relationships are built on respect, communication, and, most importantly, consent. Consent should be:

Freely given

Reversible

Informed

Enthusiastic

Specific

or as we like to say, FRIES! 🍟

If you’re ever unsure about consent, or if something feels uncomfortable, there’s help available. Visit the University Wellbeing Team page for guidance and support.
