Changes inspired by you

The improvements we've made based on your feedback

We’re always listening to what you and your fellow students have to say. It's how we make the right changes to ensure that your uni experience is as smooth, enjoyable, and supportive as possible. From better community engagement to practical enhancements in halls, here are some of the key changes we’ve made based on recent feedback.

More activities to help you settle in & connect ☕🎉

We know that moving into halls can be a big adjustment, and making new friends is a huge part of feeling at home. That’s why we’ve introduced more activities in halls, including Wednesday Tea with the Team – a chance to unwind, socialise, and give direct feedback to the student living team. Whether you want to share your thoughts, meet new people, or just grab a cuppa, these sessions are here to make settling in that little bit easier.

Your go-to guide for halls life 📖🏡

Starting uni comes with a lot of information, and we wanted to make things clearer and more accessible. That’s why we’ve created the ‘Really Useful Guide’, which gives you all the details you need about:

Hall support staff and how to contact them

Timings for welcome meetings and community events

Other key resources to make your transition into university life smoother

No more scrambling around for information, you'll either find it here on Student Living or in this handy guide!

Timed arrival slots for a stress-free move-in 🚚📦

We’ve introduced new timed arrival slots for halls to make sure that every student has quality time with support services, including accommodation and ResX staff. This means you can settle in at your own pace, get your questions answered, and feel properly welcomed instead of rushing through move-in day.

Live Like a Local: Exploring Nottingham on a budget 🏰🚌

Nottingham is an incredible city with so much to offer, and we want you to feel confident exploring beyond campus. The ‘Live Like a Local’ programme has been designed to help you navigate local transport and discover the best spots in town. Previous activities have included visits to:

🏰 Nottingham Castle

National Justice Museum

🌳 Wollaton Hall (yes, the real Wayne Manor from Batman!)

These events are offered at just the cost of transport, making them an affordable and fun way to get to know the city.

Extra support for care leavers & estranged students 🤝💙

We understand the challengers care leavers or estranged students may face in their early days, so we’ve created a dedicated single point of contact to help with the transition into uni life. We’ve also introduced activities like wellbeing walks and bowling nights, offering extra support and community-building opportunities.

Swap Shop: Save money & reduce waste 🔄♻️

Moving in and out of accommodation often means wasted household items and unnecessary expenses. To help with both sustainability and budgeting, we’ve set up a community Swap Shop, where students and residents can donate unwanted household items and swap them for something they need. This not only helps you save money but also reduces the amount of waste heading to a landfill.

Your feedback shapes UoN's future 💬

These changes are just the beginning, and we’re always looking for ways to improve your university experience. Got more feedback? We’d love to hear it:
