Thanks to everyone who took part in the Investors in Students' Accommodation Survey last autumn. Your feedback is genuinely shaping what happens next.
Because of what you shared, we’ve already started making improvements, and we’re proud to say we’ve achieved Silver accreditation this year. It’s a big step forward, and it reflects the impact of your voices as much as the work happening behind the scenes.
We’re continuing to work on the areas you highlighted, and you’ll see more changes rolling out over the year.
Wi-Fi
What you said!
You told us that Wi‑Fi in halls isn’t meeting expectations, and many of you said it’s eating into your mobile data because the connection isn’t reliable enough.
What are we doing about it?
We’re upgrading our internet with a new Next Generation Network, which means better Wi-Fi across halls. This upgrade will make the network more reliable, improve security, and prepare us for future tech needs. Most importantly, it should make your day-to-day Wi-Fi experience faster and more dependable.
Dining in Halls
What you said!
You told us that dining rooms feel clean and comfortable, and that our staff are welcoming - thank you. You also told us that:
- Mealtimes don't always fit your routine
- You would like more fresh, balanced options
- Quality and variety should be consistent across halls
What are we doing about it?
We are reviewing:
- Meal service timing, including weekend provision. You can also pre-book your meals if the timings do not fit your schedule.
- Menu balance, with more fresh, lighter choices.
- Consistency across halls, so your experience matches expectations no matter where you dine.
This includes a detailed analysis of demand patterns, operational delivery and your feedback to make sure changes are practical, sustainable, and student-led.
Term 3 Trials
Throughout term 3, our catering teams will be trialling changes to help you make the most of your catering.
- Later dinner opening times. Ancaster Hall, Lenton and Wortley Hall, Lincoln Hall, Rutland Hall and Sherwood Hall, will all be trialling a change to opening times. Dinner will now be served 6pm - 8.30pm in these halls.
- Self-serve protein portions. Protein portions will now be self-served, allowing you to choose the right portion size for your needs.
- Second policy. You can now choose to go for seconds if you still have room for a little more.
ResX and your halls community
What you said!
You told us the ResX team is getting better every year at running events and helping you meet people, with a real boost in sense of community. You also said you want even more food events, game nights, low pressure hangouts, arts and crafts, big socials and more opportunities to connect.
What are we doing about it?
We’re building a more active network of student voice opportunities, so you feel supported and confident to shape your community. This will give you more chances to get involved, share ideas, and play a real part in the events and activities happening in your halls.
