Catering for allergies and intolerances

We take food allergies and dietary requirements seriously

For those who have food allergies, intolerances or any dietary requirements, we can cater for you!

In our Code of Practice, our food allergen policy states our commitment to reducing the risk to customers with regard to the provision of food and the consumption of allergens in food that could lead to an allergic reaction.

This means that we provide allergen information for both pre-packed and non pre-packed food and drink, handle and manage food allergens effectively in food preparation, and ensure all of our staff have completed food allergy training.

The 14 allergens that we communicate include:

  • Celery
  • Crustaceans (shrimp, crab and lobster)
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin (included in some bread, pastries, pasta and biscuits)
  • Gluten (wheat, barley, rye and oats)
  • Milk
  • Molluscs (clams, mussels, oysters, squid, and snails)
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame
  • Soya
  • Sulphites (included in processed foods - those with sensitivity should avoid high-sulphite items)
  • Tree nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios and macadamia nuts)

There are many procedures put in place at the university to ensure the allergen policy is met, whether that's suppliers notifying us of any changes/substitutions to orders or alternative brands are purchased, there will always be communication to make sure allergen ingredients are checked.

If you’re ever unsure about ingredients, allergens or dietary requirements, please speak to a member of staff in the catering outlet before ordering. They’ll be happy to help and point you in the right direction.

We do our best to make sure we can cater and accommodate all, so everybody can sit back, relax and enjoy some delicious food together.
